The cup holders on the Sailfish 2660cc in the front, I would like to change them out to rod holder cup holder combo. Has anyone changed them out? Does it work?

Let us know how it goes. The ones on the transome would be good candidates too.

So I tackled this job this weekend on my 2006 2660CC. I found the Mate 0 degree cup/rod holders on sale for Thanksgiving so I bought four. I had to pry the old cup holders out. They are held in place with silicone. I used various tools, small pry bar, screw drivers, and razors, along with a 1/4" piece of plywood to remove the cup holders. Once removed, the new Mate cup/rod holders were not going down all the way. The bottom of the cup/rod holder was hitting a very large ridge of adhesive. I spent a lot of time trying to figure out the purpose for this adhesive ridge. It did not seem that there is a seam under the adhesive. So I just driller it out, where the adhesive ridge was interfering with the cup/rod holder. I was very surprised by the amount of foam in the front of the boat. I did not know the Sailfish put foam in the boat. Does that mean that our boats should float, if the hull is breached? A few years back I saw a 236 or 2360 in about 75feet of water sitting upright at the bottom, off Marathon Key. Why did this boat sink if its foam filled. I also created a backing plate for two of the three fasteners. These two fasteners were right on the edge of the old cut out. The third one I was able to use a screw. I had to use 3" long bolts in order to install the cup/rod holder and the backing plate. I had to make one of the backing plates twice. The provided paper template did not match the actual through holes on the cup/rod holder. There was a bout 1/8" difference. So, if you do this make your backing plates based on the actual cup/rod holder and not the template. I bedded the cup/rod holder with a bunch of 3M silicone. Here are some photos.
