I noticed in the article abouttime2fish provided that the last Q&A asks about an older 22 foot boat with a cutoff switch and the owner wants to know if he's required to use it. Answer: Yes. If an engine cut-off switch is present, it must be used. Found another article stating: Boaters operating boats less than 26 feet LOA must use an ECOS link if one is installed. BUT, there are exceptions: The boat is operated from an enclosed helm. The boat is off plane and not exceeding hull speed During docking maneuvers or while at idle The vessel does not have an engine cut-off switch and is not required to have one.
Although I always use the FOB while operating the boat, it's possible under the rules I am not required to according to the first 3 exceptions if a Dual Console with hardtop is considered an 'enclosed helm'. Of course, I'm not worried about falling overboard while at the helm, but while hanging over the side or back to get a fish while trolling. Sometimes gets challenging to net or gaff a fish single handed.

Well, I’ve got my first lesson learned. I was running in the ICW at about 30, and the motors shut down. Hit the button to reset, restarted and kept rolling, knowing I just removed one of the tags from the system. The problem was, I had 4 tags on the network, and no way to know which one had the erroneous MOB. I’ve since named each tag via the app (A B C…. no creativity I know) and took a sharpie and labeled each one. Now I’ve at least got half a chance of figuring g out what happened and why. First false alarm I’ve encountered.

I only use the MOB FOB for me and I've caused a few false alarms by hitting it against something. With 4 FOBs I would expect that to happen more often.
