Got my water pumps changed today. First one took 3 hours. Freaking half moon key was froze to the shaft. Had to drill and chisel that sucka out. Second motor was no problem. Took 30 minutes. Put her in the water and went for a ride. Everything worked great and we enjoyed the beautiful sunshine.

Good going Richard. I had a hard time with the woodruff keys on both of mine and the kicker was I had a bitch of a time getting the compression ring off the top of the housing. After working it for a while i got the Dremel out and cut that biatch off!

I heard that the compression ring was a pain. Lucky for me, the f250 does not have that ring. You just slide the pump housing right up the shaft.

Hoping mine goes easier! Been 250 hrs and 2.5 years since they were last done. I thought I had another 50 hours on the service interval, but when I went out yesterday the reminder popped up. Confirmed hours of last service with shop I use. They then informed me they are 6 weeks out.... so I ordered parts from sim Yamaha today. Hoping my 12 year old has enough muscle and brain power to help put the lower unit back up!

I just did mine and the first one took forever as well...had to eventually Dremel it out. Second one I cut a long slice with the dremel lengthwise down the center and squeezed it together, popped right out. Should have done that to the first one...

Hmmm. I don’t have a dremmel.....yet! Mine was at the house 100 miles away. I used a drill (broke 3 bits).

I did mine myself and it was surprisingly easy. I tilted the motor all the way up and that made it much easier to remove and reinstall by eliminating the power of gravity. I took off the lower unit and brought it home because I had access to all my tools just in case. Was easier than I thought and I may do the next one on site.
The worst part about the job was when I took it off, I put the lower unit in a dock cart and I parked it behind my car. I went in the drivers side to pop the tailgate and the thing rolled about 2 feet and put a nice gouge in my tailgate.....

Just got all my supplies from sim Yamaha. May be a fishing window Tuesday morning so I’ll wait until after that to get into it. Got the 100 hr kit, complete water pump kit, grease, and a couple cotter pins to pull the props. Already have a couple fuel/water separators sitting in garage, they’ll go on too.

Will start that project Wednesday. Tomorrow we fish! My older boy turns 12 first week of May. He’s been driving us nuts about a new bottom rod. In his defense, me and the wife have custom rods with thorium 20PG reels, and his younger brother was bribed (successfully I might add!) into liking fishing with a $100 shimano rod (talavera) and shimano tekota reel. He’s been fishing my old rig, a tiger lite rod and penn jig master reel.
So, after he finished helping me load the boat, I snuck his new rig onto the boat. I took a talavera rod over to the guy that does our custom ones, for $25 he put his name on it. Reel is another torium 20PG, loaded with 75# braid. Not sure how far we will get before he notices the extra rod. It’s in an under gunnel holder with some others. Figure I’ll start to fish with it and go ‘hey, this isn’t my rod!’

Such a great idea. He will remember it forever as you will too. Hopefully, you catch a few fish to round out the day. Be best by kids.
