The past three years the sun beat the hell out of the plastic, while the motors are up that sun bakes. The paint gets so hot it cracks and looks like huge spider webs.

Let us know what you end up doing. Mine need it too. On my 2-stroke, I had painted it a couple of times over the years with Yamaha and other manufacturer's spray cans. The paint didn't hold up long, getting dull and flat, no matter how careful I prepped beforehand.

Did you clear coat with several coats. Yes, at least with one coat.
If I get them repainted, I will look into a local auto painting shop doing it.

Well if this fails I'll do the same. Time will tell.

I took mine off last year for the same reason as they were sun baked. I took them to a buddy who owns a body shop. He got the Yamaha paint code and matched them perfectly after sanding and prepping. I tried the same Yamaha paint cans and it was a no go. The color wasn't close and didn't look right. I also had him paint the pull handles that release the cowling as well. Go the autobody paint shop route. Gatorman-
