Excellent choice. You will really like it. I hope so! I've read a lot of good things about it. That the M is a great compromise all around performer. It was a toss up between it and the HW but the HW does not penetrate as deep and seeing how I already have the GT52 which works great ins shallow water and near shore thought the M would be perfect. Ideally having an HW and an M would be the best option but no way am spending that coin esp since I just recently added thr 52 a couple yrs ago.

I can’t even begin to tell you how blown away I was with mine. Of course I was upgrading from a P66 connected to a Raymarine C80...

You're a garmin guy do not how this carries over from Simrad, but do play with the TVG and Gain settings. I use auto +/- to get a good pic. Generally I find TVG auto +1, sometimes 2. Gain auto +3 or 4. Yesterday I was in some really dirty nasty water off the beach and had TVG +2, and the Gain cranked way up like auto +15. They were doing beach replenishment near by and it was a mess.

TVG, Time Variable gain I believe. It has some affect deeper, but for the most part it is a surface clutter setting. So when the surface down about 10 feet are all blocked out (looks like bottom color depending on your color palette), increasing it will filter all that crap out. Also means you are losing returns from fish in that range too if you crank it up too high. Generally near shore dirty water I have to bump it up. Clean water offshore remember to bump it down again.
