Got the family out on the water yesterday (5/13). Boys had to do their virtual/online school first. Then lunch. Then boat. No worries we weren’t going far. First, motors worked as they should after my servicing and water pump change! Running them on the muffs is one thing, I don’t feel good without a little shake down run. Anyway we ran out of Beaufort inlet (Morehead City, NC) to beautiful flat seas. Headed 2-3 miles down the beach towards Cape Lookout and deployed the Spanish gear. My parents had slayed them in that area the day before. We found enough to keep the boys busy and interested, plus four lost Bonito that apparently didn’t keep going north with their friends. Such a good time we are planning to repeat it today before weather sours for the weekend!

No sashimi. Maybe next years Bonito run. Or even better get offshore a snag me some yellowfin. Darn work has kept me in cell phone range of the beach, but fishing while on call is not a bad gig!
I turned the 12 year old loose on those 22 Spanish while I washed the boat. Not too bad a job. Just slow. Which is ok, no stitches were needed! I think he probably got a third of them done before I stepped in and finished up as it was getting dark!

Good deal, Your kids will remember that all there life... I still remember Spanish fishing Lockwood Folly Inlet with my dad in a 14 Mckee Craft when I was 7ish and older. Still love doing it to this day. Those Yozuri's are certain death for Spanish and Bonito.

Headed out today, 6/8, with my 12yo, my dad, and an old USMC buddy. Big rock blue marlin tournament going on in Morehead, so we headed out Bogue inlet. Always an adventure as those familiar can attest to!
Plan was to run out 15ish miles to bottom fish. Forecast was 2-3 ft at 6 sec, so I knew it wasn’t going to be great. We made it 3. There were 3 distinct wave sets from 3 different directions, and I would have called it 3-5 ft washing machine.
Managed 2 short gags, one keeper BSB, one porgy, a Spanish mackreral, a good sized white grunt, and some smaller pan fish. About 10-12 fish landed on ice. Started out drifting, then dropped the hook. Only about 50’ of water.
Went to pull anchor with anchor ball..... apparently one side was stuck under something. Bent it up pretty bad. I’ll try to post pic. Called it quits early, went and got a new anchor while 12yo washed boat! Better than sitting home watching the grass grow!

Definitely beats sitting at the docks, even with a bent anchor. Man that sucka was stuck on something solid. Good job on the fish!

Dang 2'to 3' at 6 seconds with secondary wave action, I wouldn't have gone out in that! Lol Good work gettin it done!
I'll be done at the end of June for a couple of weeks. Hopefully the winds cooperate with my schedule.

Appreciate that, but I’ve already got a new one installed. I think I can straighten the old one too, just haven’t gotten around to trying.

Managed to get my 12yo his first Mahi today! Unfortunately it was the only one, and not very big. Also put a king and 2 AJ in the box. Was pretty sloppy going out, paid out pretty good for the run in at about 2. Complete opposite of the forecast I saw last night!
