Yesterday getting ready for initial launch for season I wanted to check and make sure the clutch wasn't frozen, I've had that problem before, at the ramp, which is a pita. Normally, I will loosen the clutch and hit the power button while the cable is attached to the boat to make sure everything is turning freely. Power was on for maybe 2 seconds and the thermal relay tripped. Tried it a couple times and the relay kept switching, turns out the power switch must have been stuck. The power cable was getting hot to the touch. Took a look and found that the marina had gotten the cable wrapped around the spindle, outside the drum flange. The cable was completely bound. I had to disassemble the whole thing and untangle the cable. Got it all put together last night, and today went to spool the cable back onto the drum. I hooked the winch up to the back of my truck, put the cable on a telephone pole, truck on a slight decline, to keep tension on the cable as I wound it back on to the drum. Hit the remote, started to pull in, maybe 5 feet and it quit. The light turns on but the winch will not work at all, not via remote, or via the power switch on the winch itself. Any ideas?

My first guess would have been solenoid. Glad you have it working now.
