Last year I had brought my scolpamine patches and they work like a champ, no side effects for me. Well forgot them this year.
I fish the bay A LOT, washing machine or not, it doesn't matter I don't ever feel woozy, I take nothing. But for some reason when I get on the ocean, even running out on a nice day and it's just a swell, that up and down motion can get to me.
I'm sure some of you old salts like Richard have sea legs of Ahab and drink a beer in the morning and go, hahaha, but what's your routine to prevent turning green? There's no worse feeling to me. In the past I'd pop half a Dramamine the night before and if necessary the 2nd half while out but don't care for how they make me feel.

I've had lots of people on the boat get seasick, but it only happened one time to me. I was on the sailboat with a friend in an unexpected storm on Chesapeake Bay. I was at the wheel for 4 hours and needed a break from the sheets of rain and from the wheel. I switch off and went into the cabin. One minute later I headed back out as I was going to get sick if I stayed in the cabin. Ate some crackers and felt better in around 15-20 minutes. I guess the stale air in the cabin (all shut up due to the rain and waves) and the loss of the horizon while inside threw me off.
Since then I've tried to get anyone seasick on my boat to try and eat something. It doesn't always help, but it seems to help more often than not. Sounds crazy, but it helps. Now I have added motion sickness pills to the med kit on the boat, just haven't had anyone need them since I added them to the kit.
Good luck, I do know the feeling and I feel very lucky I've only experienced it once. And, I'm probably not the Richard you're referring to, but yes I do usually down a few Wicked Ales on the way offshore after I run out of coffee.

What you eat the night and morning of your trip is important too. My boys love their pop tarts in the morning....it’s a poor choice. Once I force a sandwich with nice thick roll down their throats they come around. I’ve been fortunate that I don’t have issues myself, so just based on the repeated poor choices the rest of my family chooses to eat.
Bet a google search would reveal good anti motion sickness foods.

I always try to hydrate the night before, no drinking, have a good dinner, no greasy foods esp the morning of.

BBQ pork and a case of beer the night before and a pot of coffee and a dozen donuts the morning of and never get sick.
Naw, just kidding. Never been sea sick but my wife started getting sick every time we went out starting 5 or 6 years ago. We haven’t found anything that works great without side effects yet. Tried the bands, patches, and Dramamine. My dad swears by a Dramamine the night before and one when he gets up. The non drowse kind I think.

Bonine has become my go to for my kids, usually take in truck on way to ramp, little to no side effects, seems to work well.

Probably great for kids, but this warning would scare off most adults: Alcohol: Avoid. Very serious interactions can occur

Thanks Dave. I preferred Bonine before the scope patch but its hard to find. It seems all of the stores carry Dramamine. I usually give my kids a half to a whole the night before.

Shoot I missed all this today. We did another Marathon trip in my boat 200 mile and 2 bluefin tuna it was a beautiful day. Funny you mention that when I'm offshore it gets to me a little too every now and then, I just eat more seems to work. Then when that rod goes off and the real is screaming you forgot all about feeling ill.

I tried everything before the scope patch. Patch is only thing that works and it’s great. Always worked for me BUT I realized I have to put it in the night before. Last week in the keys I ruined a trip to Marathon Hump because I put the patch on an hour before the trip. So I always put it on the night before. Also, I avoid coffee, eggs, alcohol the night before, and stay hydrated. I do crack a beer going through the inlet (longtime tradition for a lost friend) and always have another after first fish is on deck. If it wasn’t for the patch I wouldn’t be able to go offshore.
