Radar

That's good to hear. It's interesting to see how the radar depicts your surroundings versus the chart of the area you're in. One of the things to get used to also is how to tell what targets in the water are stationary and which ones are moving. This is a good skill to practice if your area is prone to fog. When you're out in open water you might want to take a look at what an approaching rain storm looks like on the radar too. This is a condition where I found with my Raymarine radar that I had to sometimes switch to manual gain control to see where the rain was actually falling. I found that in Auto the gain was too high and I couldn't see the rain cells until I backed the gain down. Then if you have to actually run through the rain you can navigate your way between the cells.
Did you get any screen shots to share?

Glad you got a chance to try it out. Turn it on every time you go out for a while to get use to it. Play around with the gain after you figure out the auto settings. Every trip out last year it rained and I was able to dodge it every time. Boats were staying at the dock because the weatherman was calling for rain but it was isolated showers and I was able to go between or around them. You will love this new toy.

I didn't take any shots of the screen but I will next time out everything on the screen appears to be exactly what I'm looking at. It also appears to be in line with what the navigation chart showing. It was nice to be looking at the vessel and also on the radar because if I was in dense fog I'm seeing on the radar exactly what I'm looking at. Messing around with different radar screens one of them as I approached rocks set off a warning which I thought was pretty cool. Very nice unit which seems to be very user-friendly which we all know is a bonus for me. Lol

I do the same thing with my eyes. lol Actually I have found radar to be the least used item on my boat since it doesn't find birds and we hardly ever have fog and I hardly ever go out at night. But it looks nice sitting up on the T-top. Makes my boat look 2 feet longer. It's funny running down the Inter-coastal at night I can see the channel markers, but I can see them just as well with the chartplotter..

KBH, you are just spoiled fishing down in S FL. We deal with a lot of fog and I fish over night a good bit when I'm not injured. Lol

I bought a second matching Garmin MFD for my boat and I'm planning on adding that and radar next Spring. Haven't bought the radar yet and looking for ideas on what to buy.
