Well, I finally got the monkey off my back. After going 0 for 8 this summer I finally got one. It was small but legal. I was on the spot for 5 min on the first drop of the morning when I got the bite. It took 20 min the reel in from 1650 feet (hand cranking). I decided to make another drop and we were tight in about 15 min. My nephew Gavin was on the rod this time. 1 hour and 45 min later I stuck the gaff in her. Got her iced down the best I could in the kill bag and pointed the boat north. We were 75 miles out and I ran 46 mph all the way in. It was flat. I’m the first to bring a sword fish into the marina and we had quite the crowd. The big girl weighed right at 200 pounds.

Good job, now you have some good steaks and kabobs to look forward toi.
I wonder if this will be the trigger that will have others targeting them now?

Another guy tried once but he sold his boat. A buddy at our marina does want me to go with him, so I may help him out. You have to have a lot of patience for these dinosaurs. It’s not for everybody.

But man I bet when you do hook into one you quickly forget about the misses that came before and it will keep you going back!
Awesome
Do fish an 80 or 130 in 1600' of water?

Beautiful fish, nice work, great when it all comes together. If you had caught on 1st try, it wouldn’t seem like as much of accomplishment.
