Today The Windlass jammed up, fairly easy to get free but when I hit the switch it just spun and wasn't retrieving. Would anyone know if the unit has a shear pin and if that could be the problem.

Did you check the clutch to see if it needed to be tightened?

I have no idea about the shear pin but I don't think so. It sounds like the clutch might be slipping and needs to be tightened. It comes with a wrench.

Sorry just woke up, got up a 2:30 AM to fish. It's not the clutch because I used lemar's tool to free up the unit, then tighten it back up. You can hear the motor spinning but nothing working. It's acting as if the clutch is loose but it's not. That's what got me thinking may be a pin possibly broke. I'll take a look at that PDF

Take a look at part number 21, the drive washer and see if it makes sense to you that this might be the culprit. Years ago I worked on someone's windlass (I don't remember the brand or model other than it was a vertical windlass) and it was this washer that was the issue. I brought the bad one home to use as a template and made a replacement that worked well enough to get the job done. This might not be your issue, but take a look and see what you think.

I think your correct, yrs ago if I remember correctly I had a similar issue and that's what I had to replace that washer. Next time down the boat that will be my starting point. Thanks

Wow, you get up at 2:30 AM to fish. I haven't been that dedicated in years. I went out yesterday and we left the house at 8:30. Hope you did better than I did.
