I recently got a 2013 220CC. It has a 95 gallon fuel tank, and I have a question about the gauge accuracy at lower fuel levels.
The digital gauge has gallons remaining, gallons used, and percentage remaining. I haven't paid much attention to the percentage, but the gallons remaining and gallons used have tracked well adding up to about 95 gallons. Until tonight. I estimated about 30 gallons remaining, and the gallons used showed 64.8. But the gallons remaining tied up at the dock ticked down to 13. I left my slip and slowly got up on plane, and, as I did, the gauge started to tick up. On plane at about 3600 RPMs the gauge ticked up to 32 gallons. After a short run, I put the throttle in neutral and gallons remaining ticked back down to 19. Checking gallons used, the number slightly went up above 65. Ran back to my slip and tied up, and the gallons remaining went all the day down to 5, and the low fuel warning came on. The gauge then ticked back up to 10 and back down to 8. At that point the gallons used was up just over 66. The run probably consumed a gallon or two, so that made sense. I occasionally checked the percentage remaining throughout the run, and it matched with the gallons remaining. So the question I have is what is the most likely fuel level? Is it somewhere around 10, tracking the gallons remaining, or it is likely in the 20s, tracking with the gallons used? I've had boats where the fuel levels fluctuate at lower levels, but nothing with such a big discrepancy. The difference between 10 and 30 is pretty significant.
Does anyone have any thoughts on this?
Thanks!
