Got a weather window Thursday which is very rare for December, but it is 2020. I was going to take the sailfish out but a couple buddies wanted to go in their boat and wanted me to show them how to catch a swordfish. We made 3 drops and got 3 bites. Pulled the hook on one but landed a 70 inch fish that was around 160 pounds. They wanted me to reel in one so I dropped again and hooked up to a beast. I couldn’t do anything with it for the first hour but then it stared coming up and not fighting much. Turned out the hook pulled out of the mouth and rehooked in the tail. Pulling it backwards drowned it and it came up dead. We new it was a big one and when we measured it at the dock it was 81 inches we knew it was close to the state record of 242 and we tried to find someone that could weigh it but failed. I said screw it and put the knife to it. When I got home I looked at a length to weight chart and looks like it would have been around 257 pounds. 15 pounds over the current record. Oh well, I will have to catch another one.
