Hi Everyone, hoping you can chime in with why you love your Sailfish and did any of you compare it to a Sportsman? I am really having a tough time deciding between the two. Sportsman seems to offer a few more options at a slightly lower price but Sailfish is just a notch above in terms of quality. The only major difference from what I can see is the non-skid (dot matrix vs grit) and bathroom appears slightly larger on the Sailfish. The rest are just subtle differences from what I gather. Some of those subtle differences may make a big difference to you so that's what I am looking for some help with. I also would like to ask what you don't like or would change. A lot of people on here talk about the cooler/fishbox lids not being insulated so ice melts quickly but haven't really seen anything other than that. Competitors love to say that Sailfish is a wet ride but for the boats I am comparing, they look identical in flare and hull so that just seems like a sales tactic in my mind.
Is the windlass worth it to you? Most of my anchoring would just be on the sandbar as I don't do a ton of anchoring when fishing offshore.
Any help or feedback is appreciated as I am ready to pull the trigger, I just need to make up my mind which direction to go!

Sailfish no doubt. Any center console will be wet with a quartering sea that's why curtains are important if you're fishing offshore. Small minor tricks can upgrade your fish boxes to hold ice not a problem. The windless is great if you do a lot of that type fishing for just the sandbar I'd say not needed you could always put the admiral to work.lol I frequently take my 2360 50 to 70 mi offshore and always feel safe I don't know if I could say that in your sportsman. Good luck

Thanks man. Appreciate the quick response and feedback. Is the "dot matrix" non skid pretty good? Any issues with it from a grip, cleaning or durability standpoint?

Mine is a 2007 with no issues. I did cover the stern with seadek this past season not to hide anything but for comfort standing on the 20 hr offshore trips. With boats it's all about staying ahead on cleaning .

Did that come as a pre cut kit for your Sailfish and did you go under the the leaning post or just cut tight up to it? Thanks.

Thanks Finatic! That looks sharp and you are definitely right about staying ahead on the cleaning. Appreciate all your feedback. I think you tipped the scales and reassured me Sailfish is the way to go! Will let you know what I end up doing.

You can't go wrong with the Sailfish. Don't believe that bull about being wet. Like Finatic said any CC will be wet in quartering seas and some wind that's why most have curtains. One of the best riding hulls in my opinion. Good luck.

Thanks Dirty D!! Appreciate that feedback. Do you find that the hull is pretty stable when drifting? I felt like it was in a quick water test but curious what your take is.

Yes sir, we do a lot of bottom fishing when out at the stream after trolling. Not a problem at all, not going to say it dose not rock a little but overall I'd say it is pretty stable when drifting.

Sailfish is a much better boat. The ride will be night and day better on the sailfish. There is a 242 sportsman next to my buddies boat at our marina. It’s pretty but it’s not put together very well. A lot of hardware is coming loose and they have been having fits with their dealer on getting it repaired.

I like the dot the matrix, I find it very easy to clean. Out other boat is a Whaler and that non skid sucks to clean.

I ordered 2 sheet's, made all the temples cut the material then installed. I did do the inside of the helm seat area in white but it does not run through. FYI that deck took a beating last season we had several tuna some over 100 lbs. flapping on top of the seadek, good shit it passed my test.

The Sailfish will allow you to use your boat more days per year. I see a lot of Sportsman in SW Florida, but on a breezy day you don't see them offshore. Any boat will work well for "sandbar" or restaurant days. The Sailfish will run better/dryer in a headsea, and all 24' CC's will be wet on a windy cornering sea day. I have neighbors with larger Sportsman and Keywest CC's that love the ride of my Sailfish. No boat is set up perfect, but Sailfish checks a lot of boxes.
