Looks like a good start. Good luck on the remainder. Wear some good PPE. I'd hate to think of laying on my back, wet sanding the bottom and having all the wet and dry goo fall in my eyes.

I think it was a quote so he wouldn’t have to do it. Said he would spray Gelcoat again cause he would soda blast the paint off which would pit the Gelcoat.

It won’t be fun, it will be messy, but I hope the final product will make it all worthwhile. Planning a long day Saturday, head to the Stuart Boat show on Sunday and then sand again on Monday. I’ll take pics as the work progresses.

After receiving several estimates from 3500-10000 to remove bottom paint I decided to remove it myself and restore the Gelcoat. Today I pressure washed the ablative paint off of 75% of the boat. Just have the transom and bottom between the bunks. Next step is to begin the sanding process. I plan to remove the remaining ablative and primer with a sander. Then I’ll take it to a local boat yard to finish. They remove from trailer, block it and put it back in the trailer when I’m finished for one fee. I’ll rent the space for a few days to finish removing the paint I can’t get reach and then wet sand the bottom. View AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentView AttachmentRound 1: Results after weekend one. Got as much done under the trailer that I could handle in a long weekend. Just have the bottom from the v-guide to the transom. Might tackle a little more between the v-guide and the bunks next weekend. It's a lot of work but I think it will be worth it when I'm finished. In Florida, if you leave it in the water, bottom paint is useless and ugly...IMO. Attachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment DeletedAttachment Deleted

Ugly is why I went with white bottom paint. I don't like the look of bottom paint when the boat sitting on the trailer, it's all see. Lol. But with white I hardly notice.
