I posted this over at HT as well - hoping someone here might have some ideas.
A new to me 2002 F115 (model TLRA) kicks out of the water in reverse (attached to a DC sailfish, 18') if I rev it in the slightest. Obviously not a common occurrence, but approaching a dock or trailer as a newbie, it's likely to happen to me and could be dangerous.
My mechanic looked at it yesterday, and we removed the tilt assembly and replaced the washers/gaskets etc (there was evidence of some leakage there). We both thought the hydraulic back pressure would then hold it in place when in reverse, but it still lifts by hand and is supposed to lock down unless it hits something (from what I'm told).
He also messed with the screw fitting on the left of the motor and it was seized, so he didn't force it - i wondered if that has anything to do with it.
He then spoke to another yamaha mechanic that claimed this is a deeper issue that would require lots of hours to get at, and he seemed o think that if I could live with it, we should wait until the off season to tackle it. I think that was in part because we had logged some hours already chasing an intermittent throttle/tilt/trim issue.
Has anyone seen this issue reported with this motor? (I see other engines reporting the same). Any ideas?
Thanks

No idea. I'm sure it has something to do with fluid escaping by some valves internally. I would wait until someone can look at it for you.

If it were me I'd try this. Make some type of break away chain or device that would keep the motor from lifting but if you were to hit something abruptly it would snap and allow motor to lift.
