Last summer I bought a 2013 220CC with a 150 HP Merc 4 Stroke. The Merc runs great and is low hours (~200), but 150 is a bit underpowered for the weight fully rigged, especially with a full tank of fuel. This is the right size boat for me, and I don't anticipate upgrading to a 241/242 or 272. So I'm thinking of repowering. The current max HP for a 220CC is 200, but according to the specs on my 2013, the max HP is 250. Anyone have any insight into this difference in max HP rating? Also, anyone have any experience repowering a 220CC with 200-250 HP? While most of the reports I've seen on performance with 200 HP are good, I'm curious how it may perform with a 225 or 250.
Any thoughts, insights, or advice would be much appreciated.

The factory changed it, no design differences between your 2013 and the 2021 boats.
SF used to offer the the F250 as a motor choice for the 218/220. A few were sold with them but the vast majority chose to rig their 218's with 150hp engines.
At the time I owned my 218, the only drawback to going with the F250 is that it was heavier and would cause the boat to sit lower in the water, in particular the stern which lead to pushing the scuppers under water esp with plenty of fuel on board. As you know the deck is already slow to drain so having scuppers under water may exacerbate the problem if you wash your boat while in the water.
With the new lighter F250 or the new lighter Mercury 225, I wouldn't hesitate to rig my 218 with one of those motors. But if it were a heavy Zuke or Honda I may consider going with a smaller block.
The VMax SHO might be worth a look, theres a member on here that just bought a 220 rigged with the 200 and it sounds like it flies.

Interesting, thanks for the info. Seems like a lot of the 220s are packaged with the 200 Yamaha these days. Looking at the Merc 225 specs, I could add 75 HP at only 30 pounds additional from the 150. Seems like a no brainer if the price is right.

I'm the member fishnfool mentioned with the new 220 CC.
I ordered it rigged with a Yamaha VF200 SHO.
I'm pulling 51 mph WOT @ 5500 rpms loaded, with a full tank of gas, 30 lbs. ice, my 270 lb. butt,35 lb. cooler, 59 lb. 36 volt trolling motor battery, Rhodan 36 volt 84" shaft, full livewell, and my usual 50 lbs. of fishing gear(including anchor, chain, w/ 500 ft. of rode.

whippersnapper - I saw your posts about your new sled. Looks great. Do you know what your dry weight or rigged weight is? I imagine without the t-top your weight and performance must differ from those of us with the t-tops. Will look forward to hearing how you run with the 250.

I believe with a full fishing load my max rpms will be around 5900-6000.
