Headed out this morning to take my granddaughter for a ride and I wanted to check local buoys for wind/wave data. However, they've been down for 2 days now and their web site says "On 03/09/2021 the NDBC primary processing servers were shut off due to a facilities issue. Station pages on the NDBC website are not updating and there is no ETR at this time. We will update this banner as we learn more."
I've worked across the country at major computer centers and a 2 day outage is almost unheard of. Surprised they don't have a remote or cloud backup site, but my guess is they don't have funding for it or haven't looked at potential cloud cost savings (typical government thinking). Just strange in today's environment. Hope it's fixed before fishing gets good.

We had our buoy data go down a couple years in a row the day before opening day of snapper season a few years back. Everyone thought the government did it on purpose.

Was it on here that there was a long and interesting article about how many federal agencies opposed the FCC for allowing 5G but were ignored, as the bandwidth is very close to that the weather satellites use to detect moisture in the Earth's atmosphere? I wonder if it has something to do with that?

Long Island Sound buoys have not worked in a long time. Offshore sometimes work and sometimes they don't. I struggled all last season trying to get accurate weather reports to get offshore.

NDBC still down, but ride with granddaughter went great. Just enough waves for her to enjoy bouncing. Warm enough in the sun. And a worn out granddaughter taking a nap after a long hard day on the water.

I’ve been using my wx channel on my handheld for the report.

That is the catch of a lifetime.... Napping on the boat is the best. That’s why I always take the beanbags when fishing and cruising.
