They built that bridge too tall and ruined the show anyway…. Which bridge? I think the show is great esp on the hook at the mouth of the Severn, we feel lucky to have it in our backyard. They fly so low sometimes it feels like you could reach up and grab'm. They used to fly under the Severn River bridge but no more. Fat Albert usually makes a showing too.

Hopefully you'll be back in the water and have this nightmare behind you. Take a video of them to post if you could.

The thermostat housing is another well known weak spot for corrosion. Dissimilar metal composition of the thermostat itself (s/s & copper) mounted in the aluminum block T-stat housing. Once a build-up of salt gets in there it forms electrolysys (think battery) and it eats away at the aluminum like a sacrificial anode. Flushing the engine doesn't get up and around the stat with a enough force (if at all) to wash away the salt. Take out the T-Stat a couple of times a season and wire brush out the T-Stat housing and rinse it out well. Once its clean down to the bare aluminum replace the T-Stat and your good to go. (some guys coat the sides of the housing with a skim coat of JB Weld to help protect the aluminum.

Hit it will a wire wheel on the Dremel, zinc chromate paint and JB weld. Still holding up.

The Severn river bridge just upstream of academy. Damn thing was under construction the whole time I was there, think they finished it summer of 1994. Prior to that they could get a lower, longer run down the river.

That must have been around the time they started flying under the bridge and that got quickly nixed.

Yes, 30 years ago. Class of 94. Haven’t set foot on campus since 95, though work has brought me to the downtown area recently. Criminal what they did to Rams Head. Used to be our go to spot.

Heard from the shop this morning good news the exhaust guide can be replaced. Bad news, total bill is $2,200. It is on the schedule to be completed next week.

Here's hoping they don't find anything else and that you get it back next week.

Here's hoping they don't find anything else and that you get it back next week. Well I hope not, since I've been waiting on them to inspect it to ensure there weren't going to be any additional issues with the block. I just realized they didnt include the oil pump and speedi sleeve cost in the estimate, so it's going to get a bit more expensive before it's all said done. But since I am paying $1300+ in labor to remove/reinstall the block they might as well do the pump while it's off.

That sucks but could’ve been worse I guess. On the bright side, you probably couldn’t even repower if you wanted to
“Might as well”...dangerous words, lol.

That sucks but could’ve been worse I guess. On the bright side, you probably couldn’t even repower if you wanted to “Might as well”...dangerous words, lol. Exactly what I was thinking. The ironic thing is, the day I put the boat in the water I was telling my wife and one of my son's how difficult it was to find new outboards, how customers are waiting +/- 6 months or more for motors while having boats built, that if something happened to someone's motors today and they needed to repower they couldn't even get motors and that their season was likely done. Don't think for a minute I didn't think about having that conversation lol I did try to prepare my wife for the worst, that if the block was shot that would be super expensive and we would have to weigh the cost and make a decision. She said, well in that case it would probably make sense to repower. Little did she know that a repower would involve both motors. After I pointed that out and why, I sort of got a blank stare and I think the gravity of the situation started to sink in. LMAO
