So I spoke with the Lemar distributor today about that broken part which is nothing more than a bolt. I was shocked at the number they gave me for the replacement part $105 s plus tax plus shipping. An additional 50 bucks for two lousy gaskets. So the quick fix is over one quarter of the cost of buying a new unit. I found a company that sells The Windlass alone with no switches for 500 bucks. Just seems like bad business it's almost like they don't want you to rebuild the unit they just want you to go out and buy a new one. So my intentions are to write to corporate office a pretty nasty letter explaining why I will have to replace the unit and it will not be another Lewmar.

Just go buy a bolt and fix the damn thing. I would try it at least. You can't mess it up any worse.

OK, I see what you're up against now. I just watched a teardown and reassembly of the V700 on youtube. You're not buying just the bolt-like component by itself, they're selling you the entire secondary compound gear. The bolt part of the assembly has a round head and not a hex head. Do you know a machinist that can machine one on a lathe for you?

Okay Ron, that makes more sense it's not just the shaft.
