I just bought a 2016 Sailfish 240. I went off shore to fish last weekend for the first time and she was a dog. Wouldn’t get out of the hole throughout the medium RPM range (2000 -4000). At one point I was running 3500 RPMs @ 10mph. She has twin yami 150s. Any one have similar issues and is there a fix?

If you ran above 4000 RPMs did it get better? I'm not sure any amount of barnacles/bottom growth could account for that. IS it possible you had the motors trimmed up too much and were cavitating?

Did anything change as you changed the engine trim? Are the props the stock Yamaha props, or a different brand? Size and pitch of props? Are the cavitation plates just above the hull? If you have trim tabs, did lowering them help or hinder speed/rpm? I'm not an expert by any means, but the answers to those questions should lead you to the solution. An engine mounted too low or with the wrong prop will cause what you have, but there can be other causes too. This is just a good place to start IMO.
And, as footy3 suggested if the boat is kept in the water, barnacles can cause havoc with performance.

Had a similar problem last year on my 2360. Throttle cable out of the snap cover/ locking mechanism at the motor. It's was just free playing.

Had a similar problem last year on my 2360. Throttle cable out of the snap cover/ locking mechanism at the motor. It's was just free playing. But he's getting the RPMs from the motors with no speed. Check props as fish-n-fool stated.

Do you have issues with it idling a little rough or cutting out? If the previous owner was using regular gas and not ethanol-free gas, 95% chance is you have clogged injectors. I had the same problem when I first got my used Sailfish.
Find a good mechanic that stocks rebuilt injectors or can send them off to get cleaned and tested and you'll see a world of difference!

Are you running ethanol fuel? What did last owner run?
If you are unable to get more than 3800 rpm, my guess is your entire fuel system is gunked up with a black sludge curtesy out ethanol fuel ‘cleaning’ for you. Every filter from tank to and including fuel injectors will need replacing and system cleaned…. Give this one to a pro in my opinion.

If his RPM's were limited I'd be inclined to agree it may be a fuel problem. OP stated the problem is in the 2000-4000 RPM range and at 3500 RPM he was only making 10 MPH. That doesn't sound like a fuel issue, if the engine can make 3500 RPM he ought to be able to get on a plane and make better than 10 MPH if both props are turning the way they should for 3500 RPM.

Since the engines are reaching higher RMPs, I would think that it is something with the props.

I would think the previous owner wouldn't be running a boat for 5 years with the wrong props or spun prop without someone noticing and correcting it.
I'm guessing the previous owner had some life changes or whatever and the boat sat with ethanol fuel until he finally decided to sell it. It doesn't take long at all for the ethanol to do some very nasty things. This was the situation with the Yamaha 150 I had picked up. It would go up to 5000 rpms, but didn't have power and would barely get the boat on plane with a load. But, it also would cut out somewhat regularly at idle - another telling sign, which I'm not sure if the OP has the same symptoms? When I described the symptoms to my mechanic over the phone, he said he knew exactly what the problem was. Swapped injectors and it was like I had a completely different new motor!

But a spun hub can happen at any point. Runs fine one time and spins a hub the next time you goose it. I wouldn't expect high RPMs and low speed to be the result of bad fuel. Bad fuel leads to engime stumbling, lack of being able to achieve operational RPMs which in turn means speed is compromised. At least that's been my experience.
Hopefully he returns to let us know what it is and maybe we can learn something from it.
