Well my JBWeld repair finally gave way but it served its purpose and got me through until my new parts came in. Got an email today that my last part (exhaust guide) came in today.

Boat is in the shop.
I talked to the Yamaha tech and asked him about him seeing this sort of thing before. He said he's done about 5 or 6 guides over the last few years.
What was interesting is that he said 4 out of 5 have been on Sailfish boats, which he thought was coincidental but still weird.
I did remind him that there was a SF dealer (Walter George was the sales guy) that eventually closed down during the recession of 2008 so my guess is an aging local SF inventory all with Yamahas that are likely starting to show up, cause I know this is happening on Yamahas hung off of other manufacturers.
He did say I've taken care of the major things that tend to crop up (balancer, timing belts and exhaust guides) so I should be good for years to come. That's great but I'll admit the thought of repower has crossed my mind more as of late esp since my motors are still worth something.

When it rains it pours... Tech called, they got my engine torn down, said my oil pan is showing some bad corrosion on it and the exhaust muffler also has some. He suggested I would likely have some problems with these down the road if I didnt do them now so he recommended taking care of it. What's another $700....

If it was a car motor it would have been recalled and the manufacturer would repair at their cost. Boater's just don't have enough pull to make it happen. I guess one day I'll be facing this problem as will a lot of us.
Sorry it's you and you're right to consider repower, but that would even be more expensive in today's market. Hopefully this will be the last of this problem.

Yikes! Better to find it now. Are they checking the starboard engine also?
Quick, someone set him up a Go Fund Me page.

Exhaust guide and did the pump while block was off. He must have not seen any issues with the pan or muffler when he tore it down last year. Same tech that is working on it now.

We’ll you are in great shape then. Both engines are like new. At least you can have piece of mind knowing you shouldn’t have any more major issues.
