Hi - I'm a new to me boat owner, and am also new to fishing in this area. (Hilton Head, SC). I'm a total newbie.
We have amazing fishing here, inshore, offshore etc, as well as lots of places to cruise to/from and I chose a boat that I hope can do some of all of it.
My boat is a 2002 sailfish 198 Dual Console - 19' long, 92" beam, 12" draft, 16' deadrise. I'm including all of that info in case that factors into my question which is this:
There are some amazing shallow redfish havens that I've seen from my kayak (lots of tails out of the water right at the muddy shore with the reeds/grass), and getting to them can be daunting - sometimes a foot or so of water (depending on when I attempt to do so - obviously higher as the tide comes in. I haven't tried shallow water fishing in this boat, but I do want to see what's possible.
Could I accomplish something like this with a push pole? I assume that if I tried to do this on the rising tide, (which is when I hear is the best fishing anyway), the water will eventually come up if i was to get stuck. If yes, can anyone recommend a decent beginner push pole make/model?
Also, if I ever need to get out and push the boat, can anyone please recommend some water shoes/boots that can work in sand, deep pluff mud and/ or oyster beds?
Based on the info I provided about my boat, I'm not sure how to know the basic depth I could attempt - i know it's not a shallows boat, (nor is it an offshore boat), but I want to know my limitations.

I think you should be able to get shallow with that boat. You don't have to spend a bunch on a pole, any will do. Shoes, I would go with a sneaker type that has drains in the sides. They would work good in sand and oysters. Nothing works good in mud. Good luck and let us know how you do. I used to do a good bit of flats fishing over in Louisiana. Lots of fun.
