Hi all, I am going to be putting in a new sound system into my 236 and am looking for recommendations for speakers and speaker placement. Also thinking about a sub and ideas?

Had Fusion speakers, they sucked.
Now have 6 Wet Sounds 6.5" very loud and sound good. WS Revo 8" would be even better
Speakers are directional, placement should be inward firing so gunwale facing in for best sound esp while running.
Then of course there's JL audio.
Cant go wrong with either.
An amp is almost a must to get the most out the speakers even 6.5" My head unit can drive them, but they are not loud and little bass, but once my amp kicks on they co.e to life!

Sounds like you finally got that system dialed in nicely

Just no sub yet, finding good real estate on our boats is a bit tough such that it will sound good. If I had the deluxe leaning post it would be easier.

Where did you put all 6 speakers? And what amp do you have now running them? i still want to get a sub figured out. Rag’s

Rag’s 2 forward by forward seating in recessed area above rod/cup holders facing in. 2 mid ship facing in towards helm area 2 in the stearn below where jump seats go facing in. I have a Poly Planer Class D full range 4 channel amp. It is very small and puts out good power at an economical price. I picked it up from BOE. I had a couple of good spots picked out but there was a ttop pole in the way by a half inch or so or one area was 3/4" too small for the grill.

I replaced the factory speakers with JL and have to say they are jight and day different. My original head unit died over the winter and replaced with a Fusion RA70 that I’ve been very happy with. Been too lazy to add an amp and sub but sure it would make a world of difference. Would also look into midship speakers when running and/or some tower mounted ones for hanging out at a sandbar or in the water.

Relaxed my original Clarion after the head unit and speakers died with just 3 years of use. I went with Sony speakers and Fusion head unit. The speakers lasted only 2 years this time so I replaced with JL. They are worth the extra money. Last longer and sound way better. The Fusion head unit is still going strong also. I have a Fusion amp pushing the 4 6.5 speakers. Nothing crazy but has a good sound.

If your budget allows I strongly recommend you stay with JL Audio or Wet Sounds. By facing in I mean mounted in you gunwale liner with the speaker facing inward to the listening area, as opposed to say mounting speakers on the side of your console facing out.

Ktval I put 2 in the forward inspection plates firing aft and it made a huge improvement. I put the upgrade Kicker Marine 6.5” in mine and they are not JL but 4 cost less then 2, and 2 seasons in they seam to be holding up great. To the best of my measurements the loved JL 7.7 will not fit there though as they are to deep and hit the fish boxes. Rag’s

Here is what i have in an '03 236. 2 speakers in the forward fish boxes facing aft. 2 speakers on either side of the console just aft of the t-top legs. Facing outward. 2 speakers on the transom facing forward. No sub at the moment but have been throwing around a couple ideas. Either on the transom port side down low, just below the step up to go thru the transom door. Or in the middle area between the two forward fishboxes.

Looks good I bet they can hear you coming a mile away👍🏻 I am thinking I am going to do four. Two 6.5’s in the front inspection ports and two 8” in the rear transom.
