Hey Everyone. I live up in New England and was wondering when everyone usually takes there boat out of winterization. Take the shrink wrap off, start cleaning, etc. Getting to the end of Feb and looking forward to the spring!

March for me weather permitting. But I still like to be able to cover when not working on it. Tree pollen while the leaves are growing that green sh!t gets on everything. We got a lot of winter to go don't let these few mild days fool you. Every year spring comes later and later.

The pollen up here is what I was worried about as well! It is the worst. And yeah still have 7 weeks till I launch the boat. Just wanted to see when people start working on it. Getting in and out with shrink wrap on is a pain. I might buy a cover to use in march so I can take the shrink wrap off mid to late march.

Usually mid March for me as well when the itch starts really kicking in.

The itch is real bad right now but I know its too soon. We just got slammed with snow up here in the northeast. But it looks like there is consistent mid to high 40s in the next week or so. That is always good too see.

I shoot for the first or second week of April (I'm in the Boston area). The past couple of seasons I have loosened the shrink wrap but kept it covering the boat to keep leaves etc. out of it while I work on it. Also helps on those days that are not warm to keep the wind off of me while I work on it. I shoot for a first week in May launch but it depends on water temp. We can't fish for cod up this way anymore so I will wait until it hits 50 degrees or so to get the flounder moving. Can't wait to get working on the boat!

I already went for it and took the shrink wrap off. We are cleaning it this weekend and she is going in the water April 13th! I keep it in Southern RI. Only thing I am nervous about is firing her up and getting all the systems ready as well as checking on the bilge pump with some of the cold nights we still have to come. Its plenty warm during the day but at night it can get cold and I dont want anything to freeze up.

The good thing with this time of year is we won't have a deep freeze. Even if it dips below freezing at night I think the warm days won't allow for freezing. I worked on the water for a few winters and as long as you kept the boats/systems running it was fine. Even in the deep freezes of January. You could always put some propylene glycol antifreeze in the bilge if you are really nervous. Good luck with the launch, I'm jealous!

That is always really good to hear! Yeah it looks like we are only really going to have a few nights were it gets to like 31 so if it does hit that low it wont be for very long so your right, in theory most of the systems should be fine. I will use the boat every weekend so running it often enough shouldn't be a problem!

I'm in no hurry this year but I have been in as early as April 1st and I've gotten to the boat many times with ice on the deck and the boat itself never had any issues I'm sure you'll be fine. Dress warm cuz it's a nasty cold on the water this time of year. Water temperatures upper 30s the very low forties

The problem I have is, if I take the cover off too early i really have to put it in the water, otherwise all of the crap that falls out of trees in the spring eg giant pollen balls, helicopters etc land in the boat and it gets trashed.

Yeah that is why I am hoping in the next 2.5 weeks I can avoid that and get it into the water ASAP. Glad that some people up this way have put it in the water that early before. Makes me feel better, I just hate seeing it sit in my yard, just want to get it out there.
The biggest thing I am worried about is pollen. Does anyone have issues with pollen at there marina?
