Nice story and catch. Good to see there are fish out there. Still a few months before we'll see that kind of action close by. I got a Garmin InReach for my off-shore trips. I have it set up to send my wife and son a message if I need help, but not an emergency and our local Sea Tow says they'll come out and get me if called and given my location (the InReach sends it with each message). Of course I have a PLB on me at all times for any life/death issues. I use a SPOT to send the wife 'OK' signals when i make bahama trips. It has 3 messages it can send: 1- an OK signal with a location 2 - a custom message which i have setup to say that there is no immediate danger but send sea tow and it has the phone number, policy number and obviously a location. 3 - The SOS which means send immediate help. Then i have the ACR PLB as well. On one of out trips one of the guys rented a sat phone to try it out. It worked pretty well. It was neat to be in the middle of nowhere and be able to call home. I would rely on it for an emergency situation though.

When the bar jacks are a nuisance, we catch a few, butterfly 'em and toss 'em over one at a time. That keeps the rest of the jacks occupied for a few minutes each. Then we can pitch baits to mahi or tripletails without much interference. Thats a good idea. Alot of times we will catch some of the small ones and use them as bait. There have been times when we would go to a different school of dolphin and they wouldn't eat anything we had (threads/googleyes/pilchards/ballyhoo) but would go crazy for one of the jacks.

The InReach has features similar to the SPOT (3 messages you set up in advance), plus emergency button that notifies a monitoring site, and for more $$s you can use texting/emails and again for more $$s you can get trip tracking. Not a bad deal for some piece of mind. Spot was my second choice.
