I posted a thread on the old board and also the hull truth some time ago about how to add an amp and upgrade my stereo system without doing a rewire to create a house battery bank. I have the dreaded four battery setup in my 2660 that doesn't have a house battery which many have posted about in the past.My problem was concerns over power draw. This isn't the best stereo around but good enough for me.
Step 1 was to snake all new duplex speaker wire from the console to the four speaker locations. I wish I could have simply connected the old wire to new and pulled it threw but nooo all the old wire is secured to other wiring within the boat gunnels. This project took me nearly a day to get the wire pulled and new speakers installed.
Step 2 cut out a mounting plate out of starboard to put the replacement stereo in the slot from the old clarion cmd 6. It doesn't look the greatest but its functional.
Step 3 install an alpine power pack(small amp) mounting it inside the console. This amp is really cool as you can power it by tapping in to the power wire from the head unit. No need for an amp wiring kit because of its low power draw.
Step 4 figure out why the vhf no longer works I'm sure a pulled something out of whack trying to get all this mess hooked up in an already cluster of wiring behind the dash.
Anyways a big improvement over the old stereo pretty loud and clear however I still wish I could have added a sub but the power issue is my limiting factor. I used a fusion ms-ra70 head unit, 4 kicker 6.5 marine 50 rms coaxial's, and the alpine power pack. Not Jl audio / wet sounds quality stuff but works for me.
Thanks for all the input from prior posters!
The best part about it I convinced my wife I did this for her mothers day gift.
