Anyone figure out how to get the little lever thing at the motor cleaned out and unstuck to last more than one trip? I get it working, lasts a trip, then stuck again.

Not really. I use WD40 and a lot of finger action and get a few months usually. I'm getting pretty good at unsticking it though.

I replaced one that was not functioning properly, haven't had a problem since. Easy to do.

Got a lot of grease in the area, maybe if I get it good and clean? I can move them, just too sticky to move on their own. I’m so used to not referencing gauge it’s not a high pri, but I was trying to free them up while I’m sitting here at the beach again.

Yep, they get gummed up with grease and you have to get it all cleaned out. I've had to replace one like Fishnfool as well.
Probably spent too much time after I replaced it trying to 'calibrate' it to read the same tilt indication on my Garmin, but they have different spans/scales. When motor is all the way down, it takes several seconds before the Yamaha gauge will start registering it being trimmed up.

Hmmmm. Never thought about them just being stuck. Mine is 2 bars on port and 3 bars on starboard. I just figured both of trim senders would need to be replaced. I will have to check them out next time.
First of all, I came from owning inboards, so this whole trim thing is a total mystery to me to begin with. Second, I just give it 2 thousands worth (one-one-thousand, two-one-thousand) of trim and watch my fuel burn.

I don't see where there's any place to regulate them while installing. They come with a little pin that fits into a hole on the motor trimming tube (whatever that's called)
I did find out that the new ones are made of stainless steel and the older ones are plastic.

They come with a little pin that fits into a hole on the motor trimming tube (whatever that's called) I did find out that the new ones are made of stainless steel and the older ones are plastic. The ones I've dealt with (Yamaha) have a black spring loaded clip that rotates. It pushes back down on another plastic stop that is clamped around the motor bracket as the motor is trimmed up and down. The spring is not especially strong. If grease gets in there, and then starts to get hard, the spring doesn't have enough tension to move the positioner. The plastic stop can be loosened and rotated around the bracket bolt to change the point at which the sending unit contacts it and starts indicating. If one is not getting any indication on the gauge, it is possible the stop is loose or missing off the bracket and the sender still works but doesn't have anything to resist it and bend the sensor back as the motor is trimmed.

Maysport>>>>agreed. I'm just saying when you have to change the whole round spring loaded thing, they replaced it with a much more durable metal one. My original one was all plastic....
I usually just lift the engine a bit to reach it and when it jams up I clean it and wiggle it back and forth. It's almost like bi- or tri-monthly maintenance.

I cleaned and sprayed and got them moving again last night, just seems to be something I have to do often and doesn’t last long. Now I only cleaned as much as I could by wiping with paper towel and then spraying liberally with wd40. Then lots of cycling back and worth with fingers, more wd40, etc. I did note that the pins that clamp around pivot tube are metal on mine, 2006 motors. I’m not original owner but I’ve not changed them since I bought in 2010.

Maysport, good link. Yes my trim cam is all plastic. Pics in the link are much cleaner than what I’ve got goin on, guess I should probably make it a project and really get in there and clean....though I could use another coat of wax too.....

KB-you are correct; I forgot they have gone to metal. When I replaced mine a few years ago, the new stop piece below the rotating plastic cam was metal as seen in the below photo. The only frustrating thing is the gauge has, I think, 10 bars, but the sender range is greater than that. For instance, in trim mode, either the sender is adjusted so either it is still trimming up for several seconds while showing 10 bars, or it is adjusted so it is still trimming down for several seconds while only showing 1 bar.
