What's the best way to drill through the canvas top so it doesn't continue ripping.

Heat the drill bit up with a lighter.

Soldering iron is what I've used in the past.

So how have you done it in the past my first thought was to take a razor blade and just cut a small round circle slightly bigger than the drill size

So how have you done it in the past my first thought was to take a razor blade and just cut a small round circle slightly bigger than the drill size My own boat had some sort of reinforced vinyl on it. Mine was the only one I've seen with this fabric. On other Sailfish boats I've seen a fabric that looks more like Sunbrella. On those boats I put a couple of drops of CA (cyanoacrylate) and misted it with water. The water acts as a catalyst for the CA leaving a small whitish dot that is hard enough to cut out with a blade. The CA bonds the fibers on the edge of the circle I cut out. I don't know if this was really necessary other than it makes cutting easier. Has anyone seen a tear in their tops travel? I'm wondering if the typical top on most is rip or tear resistant.

I need to put my Grand Slams in but I am very nervous about cutting the holes as it had a brand new canvas top put on it before I got it. My guy sad some dambs of 4200 before you put the bolts in. Rag’s

Rag’s I cut my holes with my super sharp Cutco filet knife which I heated up with my hand torch. Cut it like butter.

Fin, if you use a torch go with butane, your acetylene torch will be a tad too much for this job.
