The diagram on the right is typical of the rocker panel on Sailfish boats. A diode is installed between the posts for the Nav and Anc light wires. The tapered or marked end of the diode will always be on the side of the circuit that points towards the anchor light. When the anchor side of the switch is turned on the diode blocks the voltage from going to the navigation lights allowing only the anchor light to turn on. The ground wire shown at the top of the switch supplies ground only for the light inside the switch.
