I am pulling the boat on 11/19 and will be going out of town this coming week. So, I wanted to spend last Saturday on the water. I thought about bringing the rods on board, but decided to just cruise around with no goals in mind. I never catch anything anyway. I'd just enjoy the peace and quiet. There was very little wind, and the water was almost glass. I just cruised around by myself for a few hours. In the afternoon, I picked up my neighbor and we went out again. It was a great end to a great season. I'm planning on putting it back in around March, so I have to figure out something to do for the next few months.

Gotta love those "cruise around with no goals in mind" days. I recall doing the same just before putting the boat to bed for winter--one last short cruise to nowhere. Luckily since moving to FL those days are past me, but I do remember fondly the chance to go out alone and just bond with the water and the boat for a little while. Funny how getting in a boat changes your perspective on a day immediately, it is such a removal from the other noises that keep your mind busy during all of your land-based time. I think that's why I am addicted to spending time on the water. It's addicting like cocaine to my mind.

Back when I could still hear worth a darn I took the sailboat out for her last ride before putting away for the winter. As luck would have it, it started lightly snowing with a bit of sleet mixed in. Whenever I think about that day I remember how peaceful it was to be sailing in a light wind and hearing the snow and sleet hit the sails. Magic. I think we're all better when on or in the water.

You guys said it better than I could. 'Bonding with the water and boat'--'We're all better when on the water'. Perfect descriptions. I forgot the best part....November in NJ when I only pass another boat about once every 10 minutes. I can actually see the bottom in my lagoon now. It was a good day.

Thanks for sharing the great day. I haven’t been on my boat since July 15 so you’ve inspired me to get out even if it’s for a couple of hours. I am all about the solo cruises. Back in a normal year I’d often go fishing early in the morning by myself and pick the family up after lunch. Love those times with nature especially when I crank my tunes way too loud but I just can’t help myself.
