My transom door latch recently stop staying latched. It was replaced just before I took ownership, so it shouldn't have the early latch problems. The latch works smoothly. I've taken it apart and cleaned it and found nothing obviously broken. The only thing I can guess is that there was some piece of steel glued to the back of the stainless keeper that has fallen off. The keeper doesn't have enough attraction to pull the latch out against the slight spring tension, but a screwdriver will as seen in the below photo. Has anyone replaced theirs that can verify what the back of the keeper looks like? The replacement part photo in Boat Outfitters doesn't show enough of the keeper to tell.

Yup, you lost a piece on the back. Has to be in your bulge somewhere. If found you should be able to super glue it back on.

It’s actually a pretty good sized magnet. Not sure if pics will show it well, but if you can’t find it I bet you can put another magnet in there. Steal one off your wife’s fridge!

In the second pic you are seeing mostly the magnet inside that metal trough shaped deal. What you have left is behind that and barely visible. I’ve replaced mine twice, unfortunately going through my random boat hardware it doesn’t appear I’ve held onto that piece.

abouttime - Thanks for the photos.
I fished around in the port side of the bilge with a flexible magnetic retriever tool and was able to find the magnet. I cleaned it up and epoxied it to the back of the catch and we are back in business again.
