We arrived in MI late Thursday night. Got up Friday and went to get his license. This is my uncles house We went to the blind in the am and saw only does. Since his tag is for a buck only, we decided to go to an area that may be more productive So for the evening hunt we went in the ground blind in a swale between 2 fields. About 1.5 hours before last shooting we saw a buck. Then another. They fed a bit but not near us. And then we saw another buck, and another. And another. Then we had 9 bucks in the field but not our properrty(yet) and still to far. Then a couple does fed toward us (within 30 yards). Still they didn’t bust us. Then 2 of the larger bucks started sparring. For like 10 minutes. Levi was in awe, as was I. Finally though, the dominant buck in the herd moved in and broke those 2 up (as if to say “I’m still boss here”) Then we watched him stand on his hind legs and work a licking branch. Then he worked a scrape. It was the most amazing thing we’ve ever seen in the wild. The entire affair. The bucks worked our way and 3 crossed over to our property Then 5 or 6 new bucks piled into the field. We lost count. Maybe 14-15 diff bucks covered the field. It was just unreal deer were all around us. Finally one came into Levi’s comfort zone and bam! The Birthday Buck A basket 8 but in full velvet. Both of our firsts. The best part was (other than his smile) was sharing it with our 91 yo Uncle (whose head I apparently cut off in the pic

Nice! Sounds like an awesome hunt. Took my 11yo out on his first bow hunt yesterday. Started out discovering boots here too small. Managed to jam his feet in there as other option was go back to bed. Bumped a deer walking in, then nothing. After 4 hours his feet were aching so we went home. Then went and got new boots!!!

Ya. You gotta have the feet taken care of or it’s a miserable hunt.
Hang in there!

He’s hooked, both hunting and fishing. His 8yo brother on the other hand wants nothing to do with either. The 11yo is already saying his first deer needs to be a buck! We hunt public land, can’t bait, so I’ve tried to explain anything other than a yearling is a shooter here!

Heck yea! What a hunt. The buck at the end of this exciting hunt was just a bonus. Keep up the good work.
