New to fishing since I just purchased my 1st boat. I am hearing a lot about the Raritan Bay Flats in NJ - what are they and where are they. Sorry for being naive -- Gil M

Gil - I don't usually get up that far north, usually stay south of Toms River, but another site you ought to look at and join is barnegat fishin hole, it has lots of great info and many guys fish out of the manasquan inlet, so you're likely to get some good info form those guys.

Greetings, I keep my boat not to far from you over on the Shrewsbury in Pleasure Bay, Oceanport. I fish the bay often. Some of the mud flats Im sure you are talking about or referring to are located just to the west of the Keyport #1 can/marker off the "keyport channel". You will see on the chart that the water go's from 10'-15' into the 5'-6' range. Good fluke, flounder, weakfish fishing over there. This time of year, if your not seeing any bass action in the rivers (they are def there right now, so you should be) head out to the hook and round the beach down to the shrewsbury rocks. Just yesterday it was blowing up out there with up to 50lb bass.... Have a decent weight spin rod ready with an array of metals and soft plastics. Trolling is the other way to go this time of year, google fishing striped bass with mo jo's for lots of information. Good luck with the new boat. Please feel free to reach out with any questions. Ken
