I fish a 2660 with twin 150's. Had it about a year. Fish Between Port Canaveral and Ft. Pierce inlet in central Florida. All offshore, a lot of diving and freediving. Rod and reel when there's no viz.
I do have a question for the group. I'm happy with the overall efficiency and ride of the 2660. It's a bit wet at times so I think I'll be adding curtains, factory could have added a spray rail to make it an amazing hull in my opinion. I added 6" jack plates shortly after buying it based on the recommendation of a buddy with the same boat and I couldn't believe the improvement. I just would like to cruise faster on the days that allow it. Anyone on here that's upgraded from the factory 150's? I know you could get it with 250's from the factory but I'm specifically looking for an example of newer lighter engines. My current thought is the new Mercury 225's since they weigh almost the same as the current 150's (maybe 10 pounds less each). I'd just like to know what it would do to my cruise speed at 4,000rpm's and fuel efficiency. Currently run 30-32mph at 4100-4200 rpms with current setup.
Thanks!

Welcome aboard!!! I know a couple years ago a guy repowered with 200 Suzuki’s. I’m not sure if he is active on here or not. Twin 200 Yamahas are not a lot different in horse power from the 150’s. I think the older 150’s are actually around 185 hp.

Welcome aboard. There are a few members who added the spray rails and were very happy with the results. In your area it could be a good option over the curtains since you don't deal with the cold like we do here in New England

Thanks for the info fellas. After googling the spray rails I'd like to know which ones the guys were happy with. The ones I found online were a little tough to look at and I don't know if I could stick them on my boat or not. Links to better looking options would be appreciated. Curtains or some goggles for everyone on board might be a better option.
As far as the engines I guess I'm better off running what I've got. They run great and I did the balancers (original), all zincs and anything else I could find when I got the boat so I knew what I was starting with and did the timing belt late this summer. They run great so I'll stop looking for now. I'll wait to see if anyone puts on the new Mercury's before I start dreaming again.
My original yamaha gauges are a bit off on gallons per hour and seem to vary quite a bit when running. I've been hand calculating with actual distance traveled using my new Simrad electronics I put on it when I bought it. I've been cruising 28-32mph (depending on seas) at 4100-4200 rpms and I don't turn them off while bottom fishing. I seem to average 1.9-2.0 when I fill back up. I did make one long run I was able to calculate this summer from Green Turtle to Sebastian Inlet of 221 miles and I averaged 2.1 mpg averaging 4100-4400 rpms. That trip was about as calm as it can get the whole way. Compared to most of the other guys I fish with that have larger boats I'm extremely happy with the economy. I just want to cruise faster after getting off of other 36 and 37' boats with 900hp that cruise at 44-48mph.....granted I don't want to pay their fuel bills when I would take my family out. I have no problem kicking in my share when we're splitting it 5 ways though.
Thanks again and I look forward to using the shared knowledge of the forum.
