I noticed the end of the season a little oil slick around a back Motors. as it got colder it got worse. this morning freezing temperatures at my house. The seals do shrink with the cold and here's the culprit not one but both trim seals. Add it to the list. They lasted 11 Years not bad.

Hey Finatic,
I replaced mine last year when out of the water for the same reason. One was leaking so replaced them both plus the internal seals. I bought the removal tool "80 bucks" that the mechanic's use to get the trim cylinder screws off and just used a cheeter bar and slowly pulled until they broke loose... Let me know if you want to borrow the tool I can mail it to ya if ya mail it back. Gatorman-

Don’t know if it helps, but every time I grease the motor I smear those seals too.

Good advice aboutime2fish I will add that to my list of things to grease. More grease never hurts. Gatorman-

Does that tool look like a large 1/2 inch socket with the four prongs to fit the four holes on the top of the trim cylinder.

Hey finatic,
No not a socket it fits over the rams and slides down and 4 prongs go into the holes on the cap. Google Yamaha Trim cylinder spanner wrench and you will see what I'm talking about. I went in the mechanics shop at my local Yamaha dealer asked them what they used. I took a picture of the wrench and ordered the same one, worked like a champ. I will take a picture of it next time I'm down at my beach house and send it to you. It should fit perfect as we both have 2007 150 motors. I believe its also adjustable to fit other Yamahas I haven't looked at it since the last time I used it so I can quite remember. Gatorman-
