My granddaughter is home from college for the holidays and wanted to go out on the boat while here. Today it was 60 on land, but water temp was 46 so it was fairly cool and foggy on the water. Took her and a friend out for a ride and looking for dolphin or whales, but none spotted. A few surfers were trying to ride the small waves. Wind was about 2-3 knots, waves were swells about 1 foot. Things were good, but they really wanted to see some wild life other than the hundreds of birds just sitting on the water and surfers failing to catch waves. Did get some pelicans and fighter jets overhead, but it was getting boring.
Got a call about seals at the CBBT and headed to the islands. The seals wouldn't let us get close before going underwater, but we did get to see quite a few playing (or fishing) in the currents near the rocks. Girls had a great time and we headed to the dock.
Several other boats had just returned and we made the right decision just to ride around and watch the wildlife. They all had gone fishing and come back empty. Of course, calm days never seem to be good fishing days. Not sure why that is, but my best days fishing have always been while being knocked around by rough water.

It's always nice spending quality time with family on the water, even more nice when they are asking to go out! Sounded like a beautiful day to be on the water esp considering it's almost January! I can't say I am not a little jealous. Thanks for sharing.

Very nice to be on the water with family, especially this time of year.
