What is the max size/drag reel you’ve put in the stern rodholders? I have a new to me 270cc and was thinking about getting some bent butt rods and trying for some tuna this year.
thanks!

I replaced one of my transom rod holders with a 0 degree holder for my bent rod. I also got rid of the screws and put in bolts with washers and nuts. I never thought about using a bent rod in a 30 degree holder as it would be too easy to lose it to a big fish.
I've put 8/0s on my aft rod holders and my bent rod is an 8/0 as well. I tried to use 8/0s on the hardtop (245 DC), but they just won't fit. They're holders are stacked straight up and the top rod gets pressed against the hardtop and the lower rod gets jammed into the hardtop support. To get over this hurdle I went with some smaller reels, but same size rods and I put about 60% braid and 40# top shot of mono. They end up being very similar to 8/0s in performance and line capability.

Put some backing plates and through bolt them pull anything you want. I made my own backing plates from 1/4” starboard, and pulled a bent but rod with #16 planer. I’ve since added a zero deg swivel rod holder for that purpose.
Look at the Lee backing plates, size med. I think they will fit the sailfish rod holders.

Thx for the info - how hard is it to get to the underside of the rod holders?

Depends on how flexible you are....

Across transom is easy. You have speakers in back corners? If so that’s your best way in.
