I have a SIMRAD Lss-2 laying around that I never used. It only does side scan and down scan. I was thinking of mounting it dead center just above the drain plug. I have 2 motors. I don't want to cut through the gel coat either, so I was either going to get a stern saver board, or mount a piece of starboard with 5200.

This may be the stupidest reply yet but if you mounted above the drain plug when you're on plane won't it be out of the water. I don't know about that particular unit but mine has to be submerged.

I'd say it's a good question, and I don;t know the answer to that, but the drain plug is the lowest spot on the stern, and it cant go under it. I thought about mounting it right on the bottom, but again, I don't want to cut through the gel.

Option 1: option 2: you can actually turn the lss 180 deg and flush mount it to the bottom. Just remember to tell your chart plotter you did this so it swaps image, otherwise left will be right, etc. I chose not to do this due to going to beach and the bracket gives some kick up protection when it hits sand.

That's how mine sits only on the port side. I also made a cover to go over the top of the transducer because they do tend to allow water to Splash upwards.

Thanks. I might have to rethink this. But center on transom seems to be the go-to method.

I really don't like drilling through the gel, and I have no idea of the thickness down there, but I might get away with some 1" screws and 5200 without going all the way through. Also, my keel is no where that flat. Ill have to check it out and see.

Use 4200 not 5200 in case you ever need to remove it.
