Or their family dealing directly with Covid19. Hopefully not. I hope the United States learns from Covid19 just how dependent we have become on China. I hope our politicians can make better decisions in the future, placing our country in a better place.

None now or hopefully in the future. I went out today for first time in a week to get essentials - some rye and boat wiring parts! My son got me a COVID-19 level mask that I work, but it was hard to breath it it for long.
Son's friend is doing the testing in a lab and says it will be getting worse. It's scary if you listen to all the stories circulating around, so I try to stay busy and only listen to half of them!

That's the problem too many stories just listen to the facts and not the rumors and it's not as bad as people make it out to be

I think of how many people died in the US in the last 3 years (almost 200k) from the flu
And I see the corona.
We haven’t scratched the surface on testing and accordingly there are millions of asymptomatic persons. Currently I believe the known % of deaths in the US is @ 1% and will go lower.
I keep asking doomsdayers “ why is this being treated differently?” They say the death percent is higher I say we don’t have a true sample to really confirm that , BUT 200k deaths in 3 years is a lot (regardless of the %) why don’t we ‘care’ this much for them??

Ol Mucky, just a guess, but I think it's because we have known treatments and vaccines for the common flu virus. I agree we have way too many people (especially children) die of flu, but there is already 'herd immunity' to some degree and known things to prevent and treat to the best ability of science and medicine at this time. Not much more we can do to help us with the flu.
On this new virus we don't have known treatments or a vaccine. Hospitals in Italy and Spain are having to let some go untreated as they don't have enough rooms or equipment to treat all that are seriously ill. Because of how our hospitals have been sized based on population, use and by profit motivation, we too could suffer the way Italy has if enough cases occur at the same time. There just aren't enough ICU rooms, equipment and medical staff to handle the potential surge. If a surge in serious cases was to occur our death rate would rapidly increase.
The whole purpose in the actions to date is not to eliminate the virus, but to avoid overwhelming the medical system giving us time to find treatments and vaccines.

Hookedup is spot on. I’m scared more people will be negatively impacted financially than from the virus itself.

Not to be crass or cold but Italy I believe has the second highest aged population in the world. They also don’t have the medical facilities and access we have. We have vaccines for the flu yet we still so many deaths? I think 3 years ago it was epidemic. Something like 80k deaths in the US I don’t recall hospitals overwhelmed. Closing of schools Business Etc. Do their lives not matter?? Corona deaths are plummeting in China now as well. Mainly because of testing and recognition and treatment. We US and the world are benefitting from this Now that the USDA has approved the test kits and we ramp Up our testing we will get very low in the death rate to
It’s sad but the aged are like 6x - 10x more at risk with this than the flu Same with immunocompromised. It also appears smokers are susceptible to complications as well as talk of heavy vapors. Last I heard no youth anywhere has died from this.
Everything points to me as over-reaction to an unknown and as mentioned this crushed our economy and that’s impacting families greater than the virus. Many more times over.
