I want to add 2 rod holders to the bow of my 245 DC. I have an anchor windlass mounted on top of the anchor hatch cover, which is screwed shut to keep the windlass from opening the hatch when in operation. I can unscrew it and open it, but prefer to do that as infrequently as possible to avoid wear and tear on the screw holes into the gel coat/fiberglass.
I haven't added too much marine hardware in the past, on this boat I did add to Accon quick release fender holders, they match the factory ones, and was very impressed with the quality. On my last boat, 19 foot mako CC, I installed a couple of Smith rodholders, they were just ok, started to show minor rust after a few years.
Accon has these: shop.acconmarine.com/products/124-6-cleat-rod-holder-combo.aspx
They look pretty nice, and who couldn't use an extra pop up cleat, but at $100 each, they're kinda pricey. I'm curious if anyone has any opinions about these, or any other brands I should consider?
Also, has anyone with this hull or similar hull done the same thing? I'm wondering what degree angle I should order to make it fit without hitting the inside wall of the hull and still be able to be out of the way of the anchor locker, which is wide open, so the rod holder would stick down into that space. I'm not too worried about strength, they would only be used to put a rod in while drifting and for example my daughter wants to put on more suntan lotion or something, so it's not like I'm gonna be fighting Wicked Tuna from the rod holder.
thanks guys, appreciate any and all comments.
