hat does this red light mean that is on only on one side of the VSR. It came on and I did not have it plugged in. Plugged the VSR in to 120 volts and the light stayed on. Also look at the charger unit inside the console and two green lights were on and a red light also. Is this a malfunction? Thanks. Picture is upside down.

From what I could find When the start battery reaches 13.7 Volts the small red light on the VSR case will illuminate, indicating the VSR is engaged (charging the second battery). When an engine is stopped or the charger is off and the start battery voltage drops to 12.8 Volts the light will switch off, indicating the VSR is disengaged.
Can't answer about the charger lights. If your charger is being used I'd expect the VSR light to be on a lot of the time.

Yep, indicates if the switch is open or closed. Other bank is being charged.
I have an onboard single bank battery charger and I let my VSRs regulate which batteries get charged.

Wow fancy stuff! I got 2 batteries and 2 battery switches. And a charger in the garage with clips I can put on batts after I drag an extension cord up there.....

But I guess my question is how it can be charging if it wasn't plugged in to the ac power source. Does the light come on to indicate it needs a charge?

But I guess my question is how it can be charging if it wasn't plugged in to the ac power source. Does the light come on to indicate it needs a charge? www.jgtech.com/pdf/VSR_instructions.pdfHow the VSR works: Once the starting battery’s voltage rises to above 13.7 VDC, the VSR switches to charge both batteries in parallel, when the voltage drops below 12.8 V DC the VSR disengages. A buzzerlike sound can be heard as the relay quickly switches in and out. Disengagement can occur at idle (low amps out due to slow speed of alternator) or if the house battery is at a low charge. An increase of the engine’s RPM will increase the alternator output and hold up the voltage. Q: Why does the LED stay on after engine is turned off? A: System voltage has not dropped below 12.8 V DC due to battery charging. VSR will disengage once residual battery voltage drops below 12.8 V DC. Basically: red light is on, the combiner is engaged.

Sailfish told me they changed to the VSR only working when the battery switch is ON because they were killing the batteries when NOT plugged in. My boat came with no one board charger. I installed a 3 bank rather than use the VSR to take care of the house. I can leave my battery switches off and the VSR is not in play however, sometimes its STILL engaged when I get back and the switches are off and I can tilt the motors! Of course I only get 2 motors down and 1 back up before it disengages. Then I have to unlock the console and turn the engine switch on.
