Finally got a day to get out there. Out of Beaufort Inlet, NC looking for trigger fish, we didn't take any trolling gear so we wouldn't be tempted to do any trolling. Started South around the Rise in in 160' to a spot we usually do good at. Not much luck and moved to many other numbers and after 4 hours we had 5 triggers for our effort. Finally tried a new set of numbers we had not fished before in 220' and we hit the jackpot. Got our limit of 30 over the next two hours with some really nice size triggers. Current was pretty fast most of the day around 1.50-2 knots at most of our stops we fished. Using 32 ounces of weigh to hold the bottom. Beautiful day on the water and came home with flat seas running 32 mph. Does anyone know why the pics are upside down?

That’s a nice haul! I love trigger fish. Very white meat. I used to fish for triggers pretty often but they have cut our limit to 1 per person. Not worth going after. The season only last 2 months also, so if we catch one during the summer snapper fishing, we have to let it go. I haven’t kept one in 2 or 3 years.

Good going DirtyD, I struck out last year trying to fish for them for the first time. They had those dumb new regs that required straight circle hooks or some shit. Needless to say I couldn't even find the required hooks in a local tackle shop.

We used to have a limit of 20 per person but they changed that last year and now it's 10. Non offset circle hooks and a descending device is required on board. Pretty soon your are going to need a lawyer on board to fish so you know and understand the regs. to make sure your legal.

Nicely done! I’ve not been able to make my first trip of the year yet. As per normal, I can’t seem to get work, kid activities, and fishing weather to align properly.

At the marina everyone we saw cleaning fish had bottom fish. Did not see ant wahoo or BF tunas.

Tightlines!

Damn what a haul!! Well done.
On a side note, I had no idea people actually target them. Almost a nuisance fish. We throw them back.

I'd come and get all you throw back. We usually only target them when fishing is slow in the summer and winter when the Mahi and Wahoo slow down or on our way back in for some bonus meat.

Targeting triggers has definitely increased over the past 10 years in NE Florida. However, triggers seem to be a love-hate fish. One neighbor can't stand the smell and taste of them and won't let her husband bring them back!

The cleaning is enough of a pita to keep them out of the ice. I’ll keep a slob on occasion but not often
