A Shell station in town has “Marine Fuel/Ethanol Free” gas for sale at $2.59, Wawa Has it for $3.28 and a local club distributor that I belong to has it for $3.18. I don’t understand the significant differential but thought maybe all Recreational Fuel is not the same. Anyone have a reasonable explanation?

I'd have to say they were pigs taking advantage of rising gass,, price gouging. The only thing that could change the price that much would be octane. We don't have that problem in Connecticut I can't even buy ethanol free gasoline they won't allow it here.
My friend used to manage a gas station part of his job was to look at pricing within a certain distance from that station and that's what they would adjust their prices to.

The other stations around town are within 10 cents of each other and its this one station that is 60-70 cents cheaper

I will say this because I deal with home heating oil all winter. The trucks that deliver the fuel to the gas stations all get the fuel from the same tank farms whick all come from the same tank.

schlnrnd, maybe you're just being lucky. Back in the 60's I bought gas for 15 cents a gallon during the gas wars! If I could have gone about 15 miles (not old enough for a drivers license at the time) it was 5 cents a gallon. Maybe you're in the middle of a gas war?
I guess with ethanol free, the question becomes what are they using to up the octane? But, since your ethanol free is cheaper than any of my local stations charge for ethanol gasoline I'd probably buy it. Don't think it's legal for them to use lead anymore except for aviation fuel to up the octane, so I'd be curious as to what they're using to up the octane. However, aviation fuel would be fine for marine use (same gas I used in everything until they outlawed lead).

I plan to stop in and ask the next couple of days since I’m off. I watched the pricing for the last 6 weeks and they have stayed around that 2.39-2.49 range. Crazy thing is their 87 octane is 2.79.

There is an extra tax on fuel at docks because of the environmental hazards. My marina has a very large tank and only buys when it gets pretty low. Gas may go up several times before they have to fill it up. It may be .50 cents cheaper for a couple weeks until they have to buy again.

Most Marina's gas that I know of (ethanol free) is 89 octane. The Wawa's ethanol-free gas and most other land stations are 87 octane. There is one station down the road, I think it is Raceway, that is 89 octane if I remember correctly, and they are typically priced higher than the others.

Funny you guys speak of Wawa they left our state 15 years ago they've been replaced by krousers. And when they were in our state they never sold fuel strictly food convenience store deli.

I stoped in yesterday morning and spoke to the manager. Very simple explanation....Shell does not require him to price shop 90 Ethanol Free so he just keeps the price far below the competition. The 90 was at $2.39 cash price yesterday and 87 octane was at $2.79. I did some research and it appears 90 Rec fuel is ok for cars and trucks. I guess I might just start using it in my truck if they’re going to be 20 cents less per gallon.
