Left the dock at 2:30 this morning got back home around 4 ran 180 miles, tons of Life whales bait and even had bft break water alongside my boat. But no luck today landing one but it was a perfect 10 weather wise great way to start the season. We'll get them next time maybe in a few days.

Sorry to hear, but must have been nice to be out on the water again. That is impressive mileage. Did you try any bottom fishing or strictly trolling for tuna or do you chunk?

Have you ever noticed the calmer the water the less the fish? I was out yesterday and nothing on troll. If it wasn't for ships passing by there would not have been any waves at all. Gave up and went to the Chesapeake Bay 1st island and bottom fished. Caught a croaker and that was good enough to get the skunk off the boat.
Better luck next time (to us both). I"m not sure when tuna/mahi will arrive up here, but I'm looking forward to it. My son-in-law keeps bringing me tuna he catches down at Hatteras, but catching it yourself seems to make it taste a lot better.

That's why the call it fishing not catching... You will get them next time, beats sitting on the hill.

Glad to hear you got out and the season has started. Hopefully you have many more days ahead to catch em up. The ocean has been violent off the coast of Florida the last few weeks. 6-7 ft seas today. And I agree i love the flat conditions but fish get lazy when the ocean is calm. I line 2-3’s any day.

I think the calmer the seas the easier it is for the fish to see line, terminal tackle etc. I know tuna love when it is churned up, granted it makes it that much harder to land them!

I’m glad you got out and made it back safely. Catching fish would have been icing on the cake. You will get them next time.

Yes I agree catching is the bonus, I just love bring offshore. And I've got some big shoes to fill or expectations from the season. Last year we made eight offshore trips on my boat and I caught our limit of BFT on 7 trips.
