I decided to replace the existing 1040xs with a new 8616xsv on my new to me 245DC. The boat is still wrapped and I ran out of time to get it fired up (software update, etc) but here is a pic showing the final install with cover on. I will update the thread with better pics soon. I went over the left as far as I could as I want to add a Mercury 403 and Garmin GHP 20 (when I do a AP in the out years).
I am looking forward to the large real estate compared to my old Garmin 7607 on my old boat!

You will like the 8616. I installed a pair on the yellowfin that I run last year. I have a pair of 7612’s on my sailfish and the 16’s are great for us older guys with bad vision.

I would think the higher resolution would help a bit too. I know on my 1042xsv it's almost impossible to read some of the AIS boat names and I think better resolution would probably fix that.

I am also looking forward to being able to read it with polarized glasses! And updating with some of the newer charts!

Here is the installed pic, a little late but I had a lot of little work to do on the boat. The GXM-54 is in front of the windshield between the hardtop supports (no pics of it). I am still debating what to do with the GCV-UHD transducer and the yet to be installed GT-51TM. I already have a B60 and didn't want to drill another access hole in the transom for the 51. But I haven't been able to test the GCV for fishing near shore at the depths (up to 100') yet. My only complaint so far is the thin wall under the helm. Really tough to screw in accessories. The previous owner drilled through several times, and while it isn't really noticeable without getting up close, it is annoying nevertheless. I added some sea deck that I had leftover on the surface to hide the holes. I plan to glue a backer board on the inside for future add ons. Attachments:

That is what I am going to do then. I already have the GT-34 on the starboard side, but will use sternsaver to mount the GT51 on the port side and run the wire like you did Hookedup. If I don't like two transducers back there, I can swap them out and only have a single hole in the splash well that I can find something to do with rather than on the transom.
