We had to start talking about fed bilge pumps huh? Well, can’t get mine to work. Pulled pump and connected to a battery, it tested good. No power at wires up front. Fuse blown, replaced, still no power.
Break out voltmeter, one side of fuse receptacle, connected to ground, good. Connected to ground fwd at pump, good. Other side, got nothing. No volts, no ohms, it’s like pos side wire broke somewhere.
But where??? Bad connection, but where?? Argh.

I did change out batteries…. Guess I better look there to see if I missed a wire??

A few years ago I had the same issue with my forward pump. I ran a new wire and fuse directly from port battery no more problem. When I pulled the original pump wire it had 2 splices and different wires. Surprised it lasted as long as it did it always sits in water.

Found that Easter egg you speak off. After much trouble got a good look at it and it looked fine. Re-splicing it was going to be a pain, so I decided to go look at the splice I’d just done to remove deutsch connector. Discovered another splice, and another…. In the end that wire had 5 butt splices and the deutsch connector. Will get it down to 3 butt splices for now. Need to buy some spoils of wire to keep on hand!!

And yes, one splice was visibly corroded. Cut it out and connectivity re-established.

Crazy. Guess someone was learning how to splice cables and just had to practice. I can't think of any other logic to having that many splices.

Mine was splice with different colored wires. I'd say they were asked to use left over lengths of wire to make the run. I do believe those days were in the past.

I’ve not explored deep enough into the wire harness, but it looked to me like the original harness came with no connector. Factory butt spliced the deutsch connector to plug in pump. All the others looked like pump replacements (at least one set was me!) and troubleshooting or repairs.
I think I have the connections such that they are not lying on the bottom, so hopefully not in water all the time! In addition to the shrink connectors I sprayed them with liquid electrical tape, mostly because I had it on hand.
