Have a 2004 Sailfish 236 with intermittent power steering failure but stays as a fault most of time recently. New to me boat. Wanted to check fluid but there was no fill spot by wheel. Where would that be located? Thanks for your help.

Not familiar with your model, but I'd look for a hose on top of the steering pump and add fluid where that hose ends.

Power steering?
Are you referring to hydraulic steering?
Or did the previous owner add power steering? That boat didnt come with it from the factory in 2004. If it has power steering there should be a pump mounted somewhere if there is truly power steering on your boat.
Otherwise it is just hydraulic steering which has feedback and may feel less smooth or more difficult to steer at times.

IF my batteries are not fully charged, sometimes I get intermittent outages on my power assist steering, a warning light that looks like an "overheat" will light.

Hi All,
I have a 2020 Sailfish 360 and continue to experience steering failure faults. Does anyone else have this issue?

Nope I have Seastar hydraulic. These posts are enough for me to steer away from power steering.

If you have the UFLEX, there are a couple of electrical things to look at. One is a 40 amp breaker near the pump under a clear cap. My cap had cracked that let in moisture leading to poor electrical connection and where Sailfish put the breaker, I didn't catch it at first. I replaced the cap and fuse and good to go. Poor voltage to the unit would also have prevent it from powering up as well (I had a bad battery and when running on the other battery (a 1+2 setup), the system would not power up). I believe the pigtail coming from that breaker also comes apart (at least in the manual it say it does to ease rigging), you could make sure that connection is tight.

I have a Garmin power steering set up, added aftermarket. No issues in 3 yrs. Absolutely love having it. Not sure I could go back to straight hydraulic steering.

I had an issue with mine going in and out a few weeks ago. By the time I took it to get winterized, it didn't work at all--it wouldn't even power on. The dealer said the issue was a connection that corroded off. They fixed it and I'm hoping that it's good to go for next season.
