I won't get into any details of my last offshore trip but a good warning. Don't ever let a crew member bring bananas on your boat without you knowing as I did.The shit will hit the fan in so many different scenarios.

I've even made people take their Banana Boat suntan lotion back to their car.

My one experience with bananas on a boat.
I had lost touch with a buddy of mine for about 20 years. We were in each others weddings, but his wife developed a distaste for me and we just drifted apart, 20 years later he's divorced and looking up old friends, we get to talking and he tells me he just bought a new (used, but new to him) sailboat and was sailing it down from Connecticut to Raritan bay, through the Long Island Sound, down the east river and into the Atlantic on his way to raritan Bay. His sailboat sunk he told me, so he was finally replacing it, would I come along, he asked.
I am not a sailor by any stretch, but figured sure, sounds like a fun day, long but fun. Timing ot get through Hell's gate becomes critical, as you can have 5-6 knot currents on any given day, so he said we needed to leave the marina at like 3 am. He picked me up at my house at 1 am, and off we went. Stopped close by to fill up a couple 5 gallons cans with diesel, unloaded some bags into the boat, put 5 gallons of fuel in the tank, and we're on our way, good moonlight, everything looking good.
about daybreak, he says he needs to put in another 5 gallons, I didn't think too much of it at the time, then he offers me a banana. I tell him no, I can't even believe he brought a banana, he has no idea, I tell him there supposed to be bad luck...
He says we're probably gonna need to stop somewhere and fuel up, I'm like what? there's no way you can burn 10 gallons of fuel in this little sailboat, he say we're already back down to 1/2 tank, I say, that's impossible... then start to wake up a little and say, go check your bilge. Sure enough, diesel in the bilge, pump is pumping it out, nice sheen behind us as day is breaking. By a complete miracle there was a bottle of dawn in the galley. We start bucketing saltwater into the bilge with dawn, fuel runs out, and we're on sail power only, with both cans essentially empty.
I explain the fines for discharge, he's $hitting now.....
I go down below, find the lines to the tank, and figure I can cut them form the tank and run them into one of the cans, pour the little bit of fuel together into one can, maybe it's 2 cups worth. Remember from years ago that I have to bleed the fuel lines, get the thing running again. by now it's like 10 am, we're way behind schedule, but at least no longer pumping fuel into the sound, find a marine, fill up the 2 cans, and make the rest of the journey running out of the 5 gallon jerry cans. Hit hells gate at maybe the worst possible time and we're making maybe 2 knots, finally get to the east river at like 4 pm, and pull into a marina in Jersey city at just about dark. Took an Uber home, he made the balance of the journey the next day.
By the way, his other sailboat that sank turned out to be a boat that only used to sleep in, engine didn't ever run and he never sailed. We had no charts, no electronics, no radio. I haven't boated with him again, but that trip was oddly satisfying. He never brought a banana on board again.

Lol, that's some crazy shit. I've made that trip a few times. I would never attempted in a sailboat.

Took one of my granddaughters fishing today. After she caught her first Spanish Mackerel she asked me to put sunscreen on her back and handed me BANANA BOAT! I explained to her I have SPF 30, 50 and sport 50 on the boat and to NEVER bring Banana Boat again. We went back to fishing and she caught some blues, then it went dead for over an hour. Headed back to where we caught the first Spanish and we caught several more Spanish. I figured I was wrong about Banana Boat Sunscreen. I shouldn't have doubted myself.
It went dead again and I turned the boat to go back to where we caught the fish. Line took off and she started reeling in. Looked like we hooked a fishing net and it took my lures before we could get it to the boat...1st banana. While I was getting us set back up another reel started and she started reeling in and almost screamed. Hooked a pelican. I tried and tried to get it near the boat. It looked like we were drowning it. Headed the boat to the pelican and whenever we got near it tried to fly off. It was on light weight gear and wasn't possible to reel it in. Got as close as I could and cut the line. Not what I wanted to do, but...2nd banana.
I think bag inspections will be required on future trips.
