We broke the Ft. Pierce Inlet about 6:30, loaded up with greenies just north of the inlet. Saw the flying fish starting around 50 ft and then better at 80ft ledge. Dropped three lines (only two of us on the boat) and trolled the ballyhoo. Had 3 phins in the box by 9:30 and finished with 6 by 12:30. Went through 4 packs of rigged hoo. Along with the six landed, we had two knockdowns that destroyed the bait, two bonitas, and two small phins that we released. While trolling we also chased different packs of birds that were circling but not diving. A couple of the chases produced fish. Naked hoo was hot but we also had hits on blue islanders...I don't know why I carry other colors because blue always seems to produce. I've tried pink, green, purple, etc. and they never get hit. We finished off our day trying some bottom numbers but nothing seemed to bite at the three spots we drifted. Weather wise we enjoyed the overcast skies and managed to avoid the storms to our south, then east, and finally the north. This was the first day I was able to fish since June 11 so although no great story it was a great result for only being able to fish sporadically. My time has been limited as I help my wife navigate her breast cancer chemotherapy treatments. She pushed me out the door yesterday and said "I don't care if you catch any fish just go have some fun". She's amazing. For all she's dealing with she doesn't complain a bit and is still trying to make sure everyone in her circle is ok. Always thinking of others an not herself.

Bride update. It’s my catch of the month. She finished her first round of chemo. A treatment called The Red Devil. Told her that’s a lure not a drug. Anyone remember the Red Devil spoons? I used to use them all the time in Lake Champlain. Anyway, after 4 treatments of the most toxic chemotherapy in 8 weeks she had an ultrasound and got good news. The tumor is shrinking and chemo is working. This is a big deal because her type of cancer is Triple Negative which is difficult to treat and get good results. She starts her next treatment schedule next week. Once a week for 12-weeks. After that is surgery and radiation. This is some humbling shit for sure. Approaching our 30th anniversary and I thought we’d been through it all. But this is new. With all the time we spend watching Netflix and TV she’s even learned to enjoy my fishing shows and sees I’m not the only dude that has as many poles as the wife has shoes.

Ah, the red and white Daredevil is a classic and I've landed many many large northern pike in Canada on them. Even caught a seagull on one once...well technically he flew into the line as the lure was cast out and so he got his feathers wound up in the line. He never felt the hook and ended up released, mad as hell but fine.
And as far as your wife is concerned, prayers from here for you all! I spent the weekend with a friend who recently completed her radiation series and is well on her way to beating breast cancer. It was so good to see her doing well and seeing her new perspective on life. I hope the treatments don't take your bride down too far, and that the full recovery comes quickly. Live every day and live for experiences instead of stuff.
